Millerbernd Laser Receives ISO Certification

November 30, 2009, Winsted, MN – Millerbernd Laser recently received ISO 9001:2008 certification from British Standards Institution (BSI), North America's leading management systems registrar.

“ISO certification was part of our strategy to be the regional choice for high quality laser cutting and metal fabrication services,” said CEO Brad Millerbernd. “Achieving the ISO standard was a natural evolution for us because of our long-term commitment to our customers and quality products.”

Millerbernd Laser achieved ISO certification in less than 6 months – an almost-unheard of accomplishment, noted Farid Currimbhoy, senior vice president. He claimed the company’s policies and procedures already in place led to the quick certification. “We simply formalized many of our procedures and processes,” he said. “Our Quality Policy is the cornerstone of what we are about. It provides focus, clear direction to our employees, better organization and efficiency.”

Receiving the ISO 9001:2008 certification reinforces Millerbernd Laser’s commitment to the overall customer experience including quality and on-time delivery, Currimbhoy added. “It’s hard to believe that the ISO standard actually makes us more customer-oriented than before. We now have placed even greater emphasis towards meeting customer requirements and achieving total customer satisfaction.”

The ISO 9001:2008 standard is an internationally recognized quality management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). To be certified to this standard, companies must implement a quality management system (QMS) embracing the activities of the company from staff training, to customer interaction, the design and fabrication of products, the purchasing of materials and services and the delivery of the products. This is done using:

• A set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business
• Monitoring processes to ensure they are effective
• Keeping detailed and adequate records
• Checking output for defects, with appropriate and corrective action where necessary
• Regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself for effectiveness
• Facilitating continual improvement
