Introducing Laser Man

gary

Gary Guennigsman, CNC/Laser Programmer

Gary started with Millerbernd Laser eight years ago this past month. As a graduate of Ridgewater College in Hutchinson he had a strong interest in technology and then he was introduced to lasers. He remembered Millerbernd as a child. “I grew up in Winsted and while some of my older friends were working at the Millerbernd Laser plant, we would sneak over and peek through the windows,” chuckles Gary. “After I graduated from college I had the opportunity for a job at Millerbernd and I jumped on it going from peering through windows to working on some pretty high tech equipment.”

Gary was hired as a Laser Programmer. “When I first started there were two 4000 Watt Trumpf lasers and everyone checked their own quality of work. Today we have a complete Laser Center and a three man ISO Certified Quality Assurance Department that keeps everything letter perfect and to spec,” stated Gary.

Farid Currimbhoy, Senior VP of Millerbernd Laser, “Gary has been a major asset to the growth of our laser capacity. He never mentioned the long hours he put in as we have continued to add new equipment like our 6000 Watt laser, brake press, robotic welders and a VS5 CNC machine.”

Gary continues, “The greatest thing about working here is the people and the product. Everyone works together well, so we have the flexibility and responsiveness to do those quick orders when customers need it done NOW, and that makes me proud of the work we do.”

Millerbernd Laser, like the rest of Millerbernd Systems builds its reputation for quality products and timely response from people like Gary.

The Diverse Role of Lasers at Millerbernd

Our Laser Features:

  • 3 Trumpf CO2 lasers
  • Auto load & unload tables reduce material handling
  • No cutting variations or distortions due to tool wear
  • No scratches to brilliant or polished surfaces
  • CAD/CAM drawing to cutting within minutes
  • Lead-edge nesting to reduce waste
  • Competitive pricing

The modern day laser was invented in 1957 by Gordon Gould (or by Theodore H. Maiman in 1960 but that is another story). It was described as the solution looking for a problem, because no one could figure out what the heck to do with it!

Now zoom to 2011, yesterday to be exact, when I was reviewing Millerbernd's customer list and was struck by the variety of businesses and industries that we provide laser cutting services for. Because of our laser's capabilities, capacity and accuracy it has become the cutting tool of choice. Here is a partial list of the markets we service:

  • Architectural – Ability to cut virtually any shape or contour gives designers creative freedom.
  • Agricultural – Supporting family and commercial farms with custom parts.
  • Renewable Energy - Providing component parts used for the internal assembly of wind towers.
  • Chemical Industry - Fabricating tanks, piping and other precision equipment and components
  • Construction – Providing custom steel building components and structures for the industry.
  • Food & Beverage Industry – Ability to fabricate large and small stainless components.
  • Mining – Servicing Midwest mining, drilling, tunneling and quarrying operations.

I believe Millerbernd Laser has an edge over the competition, not only because of our superior laser capacity, but because of our certified technicians, ISO Certified processes and accredited Quality Assurance Department. Who says you can't have great service, quality and pricing?

Wow, the humble laser is now an essential part of so many aspects of modern industry and life! It is a real privilege to work in an industry so integral to the success of our customers.
